When the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro was introduced at the end of 2015, it gained many significant changes, an all-new design and a more aggressive look that was far different than its predecessor. Offered with the LT and SS versions, this high-performance sports car is based on the GM Alpha platform, the same platform that you can find on the Cadillac ATS. Well, Chevrolet has now brought an emergency facelift version of the 2020 Camaro SS offered with a new base trim called “LT1”.
The 2020 Chevy Camaro SS comes with a new exterior paint color in order to remove the grille-splitting black bar from the outgoing model. It also gets a new, more aggressive front-end design and one of the most highlighted is the new front grille design with a Bowtie emblem placed on the upper section of the front grille. It takes the design style cues from the Chevrolet concept car that was displayed at the SEMA Show. Nevertheless, this new model only received a number of changes, improvements and minor revisions, the rest almost the same as the current model.
Features and Engine Specs
Chevrolet offers a New LT1 Performance Package as a new base trim for the upcoming Camaro SS, which is equipped with an LT grade body and SS vented hood. Speaking of performance, the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS LT1 comes with a standard 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine that can cranks out 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from 0-60 mph can be done in just 4.0 seconds. Customers can choose from two available transmission options, including eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission featuring Active Rev Matching.
Like the current model, the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS is also still available with a direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 engine that is capable of producing up to 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. But it’s now equipped with 10-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. There’s several new standard equipment on this high performance sports car, including new red/orange brake calipers, new wheel designs, optional red kneepads, and 20-inch alloy wheels with all season tires offered specifically for the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1.
In addition, the Green Rally now comes as a new exterior paint colors choice in the Camaro lineup, and the LT1 badge on the front fenders of the latest Camaro LT1. Chevrolet offers several advanced technology-based interior features on the new Camaro LT1 which includes Bose premium audio system, and Chevy infotainment system2 with an 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen. However, the Detroit factory no longer offers summer performance tires like the one offered in the current model.
Pricing and Release Date
Pricing and release date have been announced, where the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS along with a new LT1 variant is set to reach the U.S. showroom earlier this fall. While the price tag will be $3,000 cheaper than the Camaro 1SS which is currently priced at a base MSRP of $32,000. According to the Detroit automaker, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 will go on sale at U.S. dealerships for less than $35,000 and this price includes destination charges. That’s not surprising, given that the upcoming Camaro LT1 is set as one of the most affordable V8 cars on the U.S. market.
